All-Weather Beingness: Inner Quietude Beyond Experience

Q: I loved how you said if you want an accurate picture of your self, think of a situation where you’re under pressure. What came up for me was when I feel like I’m in something deep and really good and then I feel like I lose it and then that’s where I’m being my self, and I would just love you to fill that out and set that straight in me.

John: You being warmed within. The more subtle the warmth, the deeper the level of the warmth. That most subtle warmth within doesn’t come from your self, doesn’t come from others, not a circumstance, not an experience: it’s beingness of you. You being quieted in that means more to you than all of your life, takes you deeper within than all of your personal weather – both the positive and the negative. It leaves you nurtured, quietly nurtured without a reason. It has no reason as to an object such as an experience, a change, something that you can fix your mind on. There’s a fundamental reason to it and that is that you are being you, but that beingness is without reason in the sense that it isn’t held together by thought, feeling, will, or emotion. It isn’t dependent on your self, or your experience.

Q: Can you say more about being all-weather proof?

John: That comes by you being subtly warmed within without a reason. Without a reason means without any relationship to the weather, to the weather of your self, of your experience. All-weather beingness is beingness that isn’t dependent, your presence in it isn’t dependent on the sense of your self and on your experience. It isn’t connected to your experience, it doesn’t come from your experience. It’s beingness that comes from you. It creates experience, doesn’t come from experience. It’ll change the weather in your self. It doesn’t come from the weather in your self. It doesn’t come from fair weather. It doesn’t come from the experience of warmth in your self. It doesn’t come from feelings of nurture in your self.

Q: When you started speaking and saying it doesn’t have a relationship to my experience I thought, wow, zero! Zero relationship.

John: Yes. If it’s zero relationship, you are being what you are after you’ve died, right there in the midst of your self, in your body, while you live.

Q: Can something remind me of that? I’m asking because when my mother visited us it felt like I was reminded of that, and when my sister is here there’s something in me that’s relaxed because they’re here. I was wondering if that reminds me of a beingness that I used to have or that I have with them.

John: Yes.

Q: That I used to have?

John: That you used to have and that is brought up in you through your bond with them, but because it’s connected to a reason it is a fair weather beingness. It’s real, but it doesn’t have the stability you think it does, provided by your experience, because a change of circumstance will pull you out of that; you’re in it because of the circumstance. The circumstance highlights a level of you that you have lived in, that you have been in your past. The circumstance unveils the bond, and the bond unveils this level in you, so it’s the circumstance that unveils you so you’re dependent on the circumstance for this unveiling. When the circumstance changes, the unveiling is covered again.

While you’re in this circumstance, you can be absorbed by this level of you that’s revealed within the bond, and then you be this level in the bond and also without the bond. You continue being this level while you are with someone that isn’t providing this level of bond with you. The beingness remains, no longer supported by the weather. The beingness, by you being quieted in it, then stands on its own. It isn’t in relationship to the weather anymore.

Q: But I feel like I can use that, I can use the bond and then love that and then go out and be in whatever.

John: Then be the same while you’re with others where you don’t have the experience of that bond.
