From the September 1, 2015 evening informal meeting with John de Ruiter in Nordegg, Canada
Q: The word ‘meaning’ has such new, expansive and powerful impact for me, like an expanding accordion. It touches me so much and I’m curious about why that is.
John: Instead of defining it, it’s more useful for you to realize your relationship to it, to realize that in everything you do in your interior and in your life, in your self and as a person, you do in relationship to meaning. So you’re holding meaning, you’re running after meaning, or you’re responding to meaning. Your most fundamental way of moving is all in relationship to meaning. Everything is about meaning. You’re not able to separate from it. What you are able to separate from is that the reason you’re looking for all of that, or having it, or entering it is because you’re made of that. Meaning is really what you are. Because it is what you are; it is your relationship with everything.
Q: What is the relationship between meaning and knowing?
John: As soon as meaning is aware, meaning knows. This takes you right back to the fundamentals of awareness, of what you first are, before your being, before there’s any self, any life, before there’s any heart. Before there is your being, there’s just meaning. As soon as there is meaning aware, that’s you. As soon as meaning is aware, it knows, and what it knows is love, and love is its movement. The forms of that movement are all of the forms, levels, and regions of your being.
