Summer evening, June 2011

Meeting attendees gathered in the garden, donning leathers, feathers, country dresses, boots and buckles, ready for the first ever Western Style BBQ. The international crowd looked at home in Western garb. The sunny garden was furnished with a wagon wheel lemonade stand, hay bales, and the sound of bluegrass music.

A vast array of salads, sweets, and savouries complemented the BBQ, along with a selection of premium Albertan brew. Special events included live music performances, line dancing, wagon rides, and the legend: Cowboy Don and his mechanical bull. Hundreds braved the challenge, hanging on “for dear life” and falling softly into the cushion below.

In the twilight, many danced on the low freight trailer while others jumped over mounting stacks of bales, and after sunset, the remaining few lounged around the fire which had been burning since the beginning.
